HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-28-1979HASTINGS HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMISSION November 28, 1979 MINUTES Minutes from the last meeting were approved as read. Indexing of the historical calender was discussed and Florence commented that the Commission may be able to receive some help from the Dakota County CETA. Glenda will see about the cover design and she thought that the index could maybe be included in the one hun- dred copies which are now being bound. Hazel Jacobsen reported that Mr. Craftson, from Metropolitan Junior College, brought 25 exceptional children in the eighth grade down for a tour. Four of the students were doing projects on places in the area such as New Trier, Nininger, and the Hastings Hotel. A letter was received from Peg Meier who is taking a six month leave from her position on the Minneapolis Tribune to write a book about the history of Minnesota. She would like anyone who has any human interest stories or old journal entries to send them to her for inclusion in her book. The plaques from the War Memorial have been put in storage for the winter and it was mentioned that the city might put ten thousand dollars and the veterans clubs may put up three thousand dollars each for their restoration. If anyone knows the where abouts of the plaque dated approximately 1926 which used to be on a granite base at the end of Vermillion street we would appreciate knowing. Don Eddy reported that the Assistant City Engineer has drawn up a placement plan for the lights which are being concidered by the down-town bussinessmen. The next step in the plan is to get a price on the fixtures and installation costs. Florence announced that at 2:00 on December 6, 1979 the Minnesota Historical Society will be holding a luncheon to introduce the eleven preservation commissions in the state of Minnesota. Anyone interested in going should contact Florence. Glenda asked for approval for the cost of film so that she can start taking slides of the historical sites in town. Hazel made a motion for approval of this expense. Don Eddy second the motion and it carried. Hazel presented a nomination for Pat Kelso to the Commission.
