HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-28-1990H~ST~N~S HERiTAgE PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes of Meeting of February 28, 1990 Present: Commissioners Thorsen, Hoeschen, Goderstad, Malm and Simacek; Staff Grossman Absent: none The Meeting was called to order by Chairman Simacek at 7:30 p.m. 1. Minutes of the meetings of January 24 and Februar~ 7, 1990. Mr. Goderstad moved and Mr. Malm seconded approval of the minutes. For the motion: five; opposed: none. 2. Applioants for vaoant positions interviewed. The following applicants for the vacant commission seats were interviewed. a. Randy Bohn, 20200 Orluck Way b. Robert Melson, 413 W. Second St. c. Richard Smith, 718 Vermillion St. d. Robert Stoneberg, 1202 Tyler St. 3. Recommend applicants to Mayor for appointment. Upon voting, Mr. Smith and Mr. Stoneberg were unanimously selected for recommendation. Mr. Goderstad moved and Mr. Hoeschen seconded their recommendation to the Mayor and Council for appointment and direction to staff to write letters thanking and notifying all applicants. For the motion: five; opposed: none. 4. Committee recomendations Mr. Grossman recommended the following committees be formed to organize the work of the commission. Although the committees would work on their own schedule, policy and permit decisions would be made at meetings by the entire commission. Grants committee: three members; work with the State Historic Preservation Office to take advantage of grant programs and to coordinate local activities with available funding opportunities. Goal: one grant application each year, prepared by December 1st. Mr. Goderstad and Mr. Malm~voluntee~red for this committee. Survey committee: three members; work year around on identification, research, writing, recommendation and registration of heritage preservation sites. Goal: one new registration approved by City Council and SHPO each year, by October 1st. ' . i, Mr. Goderstad volunteered for this con~mittee. Education committee: three members; work with existing registered property owners, on call and ongoing, to advise, assist and prepare preservation plans for their properties. Goal: to provide one ma~llng, meeting, publication or event for the public each year as a means of preservation education and promotion. Mr. Simacek, Mr. Thorsen and Mr. Malm volunteered for this committee. Permit committee: three members; on call of city staff meet with applicants for building, remodeling, moving or demolition permits; decide to issue no change certificate or to call public meeting for review. Serve as coordinating committee on specific preservation problems when they arise. Mr. Simacek, Mr. Thorsen and Mr. Hoes~en volunteered for this committee. 5. Bills a. John Grossman - reimburse registration for conference - $50.0o b. Boots & Bits - engraving - $10.00 Mr. Malm moved and Mr. Thorsen seconded approval of the bills. For the motion: five; opposed: none. 6. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned by voice vote.
