Roll Call Present: Commissioners Thorsen, Hoeschen, Staff Grossman Absent: Simacek, Goderstand, Malm. Stoneberg, Smith; 2. ~inutes of the Meeting of Februer~ 27, ~99~. Mr. Smith moved and Mr. Stoneberg seconded approval. Motion carried, 4-0. Tom Lewanski; presentation on historic natural areas. Mr. Thorsen moved and Mr. Smith seconded a motion supporting the concept of designating and protecting historic natural areas; asking Mr. Lewanski to provide costs and resources for a survey; and meeting with the Natural Resources and Recreation Commission to see if they are interested in a joint venture. Motion carried, 4-0. Mr. Smith, Mr. Thorsen and Mr. Hoeschen volunteered to meet with the NRRC. Mr. Grossman will make arrangements. 4. Levee Park - discussion of designation. Mr. Grossman reviewed the procedure and requirements for designation. At a date to be determined at the next meeting, Mr. Stoneberg, Mr. Malm and Mr. Simacek will meet on the subject with the NRRC first, and then with neighboring property owners.. 5. Old Courthouse - update. Mr. Grossman reported that Lindberg-Pierce, the architectural firm to be hired by the city, will have an experienced historic architect consultant to ensure that the National Register guidelines for rehabilitation are observed in the City's rennovation project of the old courthouse. One of the two firms which have experience, Miller-Dunwoodie or McDonald-Mack, will probably be selected. The HPC will review the plans and give final approval. 6. Reservations for CLG Conference, April 20, 1991. TO maintain the City's certification, one or more members of the HPC must attend the annual training. Mr. Smith, and Mr. Stoneberg are able to attend; Mr. Hoeschen will call back. Mr. Grossman will try to check with the absent members before sending in the reservations. Part of the meeting on Friday afternoon on grants will be attended by Mr. Smith. 7. NOW buo~ess. Dakota County Historical Society commended the City of Hastings for its intention to buy and renn0vate the Old Courthouse for City Hall. They are also doing a Spiral Bridge video project. 8. &djournnent. The meeting was adjourned by voice vote.
