Present: Commissioners Malm, Simacek, Goderstad and Smith Absent: Commissioners Stoneberg, Thorsen and Hoeschen 2. Minutes of the Meeting of March 27, 1991. Mr. Goderstad moved and Mr. Smith seconded approval. Motion carried, 4-0. 3. Riverfront workshop Mr. Grossman summarized the purpose of the workshop. Mr. Malm moved and Mr. Goderstad seconded that Commission representatives speak for presevation of the Levee from Vermillion to Railroad, north of blocks 1,2 3 and 4, Original Town of Hastings. Motion carried 4-0. Mr. Malm moved and Mr. Smith seconded the following guidelines for preservation of the Levee. Motion carried, 4-0. Suggest future improvements for the riverfont: a. New and better plaques to tell the story of the Levee. b. Additional landscaping. c. Add new light standards to Ramsey and the monument. Suggest standards for new construction adjacent to the Levee: a. Brick or stone exterior material b. No higher than the existing historic Second Street buildings. c. Design compatible with surrounding buildings. Mr. Malm and Mr. Simacek will represent the commission at the workshop. 4. Gardner House. The owners, Tom and Mary Kay Jungman asked for a meeting with the HPC on the door issue, preferable on a Monday evening. The Commissioners agreed to meet on a second or fourth Monday at 6 p.m. The commissioners want to hear their suggestions for replacing the door which was replaced without approval. 5. Grant. Mr. Malm moved and Mr. Goderstad seconded that the HPC apply for and ask the Council for matching funds for a federal grant for a context study. Motion carried, 4-0. 6. Nomination. Mr. Goderstad moved and Mr. Smith seconded approval to send the Shaller Building, 313 Ramsey Street, nomination to the State Historic Preservation office and the Planning Commission. Motion carried, 4-0. 7. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned by voice vote.
