HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-16-2000 HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes of the Meeting of May 16, 2000 I. Quorum: Thorsen, Langenfeld, Sovik-Siemens, Coutu, Goderstad and Schnirring present. II. Minutes of March 21 and April 18, 2000. Langenfeld moved, Schnirring seconded approval; motion carried. IlL Review of building permits or design proposals. Dianne Addison - 615 Vermillion - porch reconstruction and window replacement. Schnirring moved, Goderstad seconded approval for replacement of porch and windows. The designs submitted for the porch and replacement windows were considered appropriate to the vernacular design and age of the house. Motion carried. IV. Unfinished business: Walking Tour to be reprinted by Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Sovik-Siemens reviewed walking tour and is working with Chamber/City signing group. Staffwill shorten content, add some new sites and remove a few for the new publication. V. New business Unauthorized vinyl siding. 109 E 6~h St. owned by Barbara Thoren was resided with vinyl without HPC review, approval. A building permit was released but HPC not informed by building official. Staff noticed when job was 90% complete. Staff asked to discuss with administrator, emphasize with building department staff, write Ms. Thoren, and do a mailing for all property owners. VI. Staff & Committee Reports. Guardian Angels redevelopment concept will be going to neighborhood meeting and planning commission. Concept includes preservation of church and school. New townhouse on vacant area. HPC to review design and any change to church. LeDue Project. MHS and the local advisory board are considering a variety of uses, including historic interpretation, adaptive reuse and sale. Council's Parks and Rec committee met with Mr. Gannaway, Mr. Warg and City staff for information on process and timing. VII. Adjourn. Goderstad moved and Schnirring seconded adjournment; motion carded.
