E. Old Hastings District. Yard fence. Application to install chain link fence across from and side yard of property. The address is misleading as the from faces Vermillion and side faces Sixth Street. The purpose of the fence is to provide a secure play area for their children. The guidelines recommend that chainlink not be used in fi'ont yards. The commission explained that they have approved picket and wooden or iron fences for from yards in historic districts and that those people would expect that the Rices would have to observe the same rules. The Rices explained that they cannot afford a picket fence at this time. Motion by Schnirring, second by Simacek to approve a chain link fence but only behind (east of) a north-south line across the front of the house. The front and side up to that line (west of) should be fenced in a traditional material and design; motion carried. Motion by Simacek, second by Smith to adjourn; motion carried.
