HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-18-99HASTINGS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION Minutes of May 18, 1999 1. Roll: Commissioners Goderstad, Coutu, Thorsen, Sovik-Siemens, Warg and Thorsen present. Chairman Thorsen called meeting to order at 7 p.m. 2. Minutes. Meeting of April 20, 1999. Motion by Goderstad, second by Warg to approve; motion carded. 3. Bills. Motion by Sovik-Siemens, second by Goderstad to approve; motion carried. Landscape Research $1,500 - 5th monthly payment on CLG grant project Capital - $206 - copier monthly service rate Midwest Photo - $87.15 - photos for Pioneer Room Minnesota Historical Society - $60 - registration, two members, annual workshop 4. Review of building permits or design proposals. 213 Sibley, Riviera Theater. Request to reinstall windows in original openings now boarded up. Staffapproved. Commission asked that building department be asked to notify staffwhen an application requested to follow up on design. 5. Unfinished business. Registration project. Commission directed staff*to notify owners of registered properties that the Commission will consider a recommendation to council to designate these properties as Hastings Heritage Sites at their June meeting. Conservation area. Motion by Sovik-Siemens, second by Goderstad to include the area between River Street and Lake Street, Hwy 55 and 10th Street and the Mississippi as the conservation area to be proposed to Council. 6. New business. a. Membership. Heidi Langenfeld was interviewed for commission vacancy. Motion by Goderstad, second by Coutu to recommend to City Council for appointment; motion carried. b. Interpretive Marker project. Staffdescribed a project proposed by the MNRRA staffto install markers along the riverfi'ont trail describing historic and natural features. Chalmaan will be notified of future meetings. HPC budget may include matching funds. c. Interpretive tour guide reprint. Motion by Goderstad, second by Warg to allocate $1,000 of HPC budgeted funds for reprinting the tour guide; motion carded. 7. Staff & Committee Reports. a. LeDuc House. Commissioner Thorsen reported on his participation in a LeDuc issues workshop conducted by the Minnesota Historical Society. Wayne Gannaway has been hired by the Society to work with the community on future use and ownership of the LeDuc property. b. Annual training. Commissioners Coutu and Sovlk-Siemens reported on their participation in the annual preservation conference in St. Peter. 8. Adjournment. Motion by Goderstad, second by Coutu; motion carried.
