HomeMy WebLinkAbout20240919 - PSAC Minutes September 19, 2024 Public Safety Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes Present: Commissioners: Melissa Blackstad, Gary Stevens, John Gunter, Mary Nehring, Steven Anderson, and Theresa Auge`. There were several Hastings residents in attendance. City Staff: Police Chief Dave Wilske, Fire Chief John Townsend Chair Augé called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Welcome/Introductions: The agenda was amended to include Micro Mobility (aka E-Bikes) and PSAC Commission Resignation A motion made by Commissioner Anderson and seconded by Commissioner Nehring to approve the amended agenda. Motion passed unanimously. A motion made by Commissioner Nehring and seconded by Commissioner Blackstad to approve the August 15, 2024, meeting minutes. Motion passed unanimously. Police Update: • Staffing Update: New Officer started – Brandon Kucharski. The department is at full staff, which will allow an additional investigator position. • Investigators to move to 6-year terms vs 3-years. • 2025 hiring update to include an additional school resource officer, providing an officer at the middle and high schools. • Rivertown Live event went well. Attendance was 2000-2200. The drone team provided coverage over the rooftops. This is a standard procedure at events. • Hastings Family Service Board: Chief Wilske will term out at end of the year and Deputy Chief Schowalter will join. • Working with a new company to furnish the squad cars and will save $6,000 per build. • Looking at 3 replacement cars for 2025. Fire Update: • Booya went well. • Fire Prevention week coming up with open house on October 8th • FD working on school visits • A new brush truck is now in service with the old one being sold. • The hiring process to start January 25 in which plans are to hire 2 additional Firefighters. Old Business: • None New Business: • Lions Park update: despite the recent fire, we will plan on this site for the NNO in 2025. • Everbridge overview is a communication tool used to notify residents through a 911 system. • ATV update Motion made by the City Council to send this topic to PSAC was discussed. Chair Auge` will confirm the intent of the city council’s motion regarding PSAC’s duties. • Resignation Commissioner Anderson resigned effective September 20. Chair Auge` will notify the City Council. • Micromobility: Chief Wilske brought this topic to the commission. Chair Auge` will confirm what role the commission has on this topic. Next Meeting: October 10th at City Hall Adjournment: A motion was made by Commissioner Nehring and seconded by Commissioner Blackstad. The meeting was adjourned at 7:29 pm.
