HomeMy WebLinkAbout2.a - Minutes - 9-9-24Hastings Planning Commission September 9, 2024 - Regular Meeting Agenda Hastings City Hall - Council Chambers 7:00 p.m. The Planning Commission of the City of Hastings, Minnesota met in a regular meeting on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hastings City Council Chambers. 1. Call Meeting to Order Planning Commissioners Present: Messina, LeBrun, Peters, Swedin, and Teiken. Planning Commissioners Absent: Halberg, McGrath Staff Present: City Planner Justin Fortney 2. Approval of Minutes— August 12, 2024 Regular Meeting and September 3, 2024 — Workshop Meeting Chair Messina asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes. Minutes were approved as presented. PUBLIC HEARINGS 3. Hussein Alobaidi — Special Use Permit - #2024-36 — Cannabis — Smokeys Tobacco — 300 Vermillion St Fortney provided a summary of the request to hold a public hearing and recommend action on the request for a Special Use Permit application for Hussein Alobaidi of Smokeys Tobacco located at 300 Vermillion St. The property is owned by Gregory and Susan Jablonski. Similar to previous applications, notice was mailed to all property owners within 350 feet and that no comments have been received. Fortney reviewed the Zoning and Comprehensive Plan Classifications and shared the criminal history background investigation and security plan have been completed. Chair Messina opened the public hearing at: 7:04 p.m. Chair Messina closed the public hearing at: 7:04 p.m. Commission discussion on the communication provided to business owners about the requirements to be able to sell these kinds of products as there have been a number of violations within the City. Commissioner Teiken motioned to approve the Special Use Permit, seconded by Commissioner LeBrun. Ayes: Commissioners Messina, LeBrun, Peters, Swedin, and Teiken. Nays: None Abstain: None Absent: Halberg, McGrath OTHER ACTIONS 4. Other Business Fortney provided a summary of recent City Council actions and future items for the Planning Commission's review. 5. Adjourn Commissioner Swedin motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 PM. Seconded by Commissioner Peters. Vote: Ayes 5; Nays: 0. Motion approved as presented.
